AIR Gigaray

AIR Gigaray is a unique integrated gigabit fixed wireless point to multipoint platform providing the technological edge to fixed and mobile operators who want to:

  • Expand existing networks
  • Take advantage on pre-fibre first mover advantage
  • Offer wireless triple play
  • Off-load mobile traffic
  • Deploy high capacity backhaul and fronthaul.

Based on the DOCSIS standard, the platform mimics a cable network and such provides key advantages in the fixed wireless ecosystem in regard to capacities in throughput and coverage range, supported services and compatibility with standard DOCSIS equipment. Key factors, that differentiate the AIR Gigaray platform are:

  • Sector capacity of up to 4.7 Gbps in the downstream and 2.7 Gbps in the upstream
  • End user throughput capacity of in excess of 1 Gbps in the downstream
  • Coverage range of up to 50km
  • Unlimited capacity of connected users (limited by throughput only)
  • Any service, normally seen on cable or fiber networks is supported like TV in DVB or IPTV, VoIP, OTT, VOD, Catch up TV,…


D3.1 transmission technology combined with AIR Gigaray, results in a state-of-the-art fixed wireless access system that can match the performance of fiber networks and state-of-the-art cable networks.

AIR Gigaray with Docsis 3.1 can be a very competitive solution in areas with high population density and even in well-developed markets demanding high end-user throughput. It can provide a broadband speed of more than 18 Gbps per base station by using 500 MHz of frequency bandwidth pet sector.

4.0 is already in development phase providing even higher speeds and the possibility of using FDX.

Cable operators can easily extend their footprint and seamlessly integrate AIR with Docsis 3.1 in their existing network, OSS/BSS, billing and other systems. All standard Docsis equipment can be used with AIR and can be purchased from a wide variety of vendors.

Although it is not the latest version it still allows fast internet and the main advantage of the package are favorable prices. There are millions of users still using Docsis 3.0 based broadband in cable networks all over the world and there are many vendors offering new and refurbished equipment.

AIR with Docsis 3.0 is the best choice for existing cable operators, especially in less developed broadband markets. Cable operators can easily extend their footprint and seamlessly integrate Globtel Air system with Docsis 3.0 in their existing network and use existing OSS/BSS, billing and other systems.

Docsis is the abbreviation for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification. This is an international telecommunications standard that enables the delivery of high-bandwidth data over RF in cable television (CATV) systems. Docsis standard has come a long way from its inception to the version 3.1 which is the latest evolution of the standard offering broadband speeds that can compete with fiber networks.

Docsis transmission technology can be used with AIR to achieve the same characteristics as in a cable network. It’s equipment consists of CMTS (cable modem termination system) as a data transmission platform and cable modems as end-user devices. Globtel Air system acts as a transport layer (physical infrastructure) and connects CMTS with the end user’s cable modem.
